In May 2015 a couple of good friends started talking about a “room escape” they had played in Oslo.  I wasn’t really paying that much attention but the name took root in my head.  Later that month I went with some friends to Berlin for a few days.  After doing the usual tourism thing, we considered some of the more “off the beaten track” things to do.  After disregarding a tour of the sex dungeons of Berlin I remembered the name “escape room or was it room escape”.  A quick internet search, a german latte and a short U-bahn journey later I became hooked!  Since then I visited many, many rooms in many countries and over the last year the seed of escape room tourism has grown.  In March of 2016 a business partner and I opened what would become a very successful room in Bletchley Park.  Due to pressing work commitments we sold this to an amazing couple who are in the process building an independent escape room empire in the UK.  I am happy to give advice or beta test rooms free of charge.

  1. Hi Frank,
First of all, great blog. I started reading it because I had an idea to start an escape room tourist agency. At first I thought that is what you did, then I realized that you are blogging about your travels and escape rooms that you’ve played along the way… Finally I’ve realized that you really like Fox in a Box franchise and that you have played at different locations. As the CEO of Fox in a Box I’d like to talk to you about your experiences in Gran Canaria and Nice and I’d like to invite you to try our newest rooms, so please send me an email so we can talk more.

    1. Hey Bob. We are friends on Facebook so I will send there. Thanks for the compliment. I’m currently in Cancun, Mexico. No many escape rooms to choose from here but yes I’m a big fan of Fox in a Box.
